COVID-19 Policies and Procedures
In response to COVID-19, ELC has been working diligently to create policies and procedures to support the health and safety of our school family. We hope these changes are temporary and will be reviewed on a regular basis, taking into account the best COVID-19 related data at the time.
At this time, the plan is to open for Full-day families July 30th and Half-day families August 31st.
Updated Policy and Procedures: Covid 19
Thank you for taking the time to read this important document, which outlines new policy and procedures that have been carefully developed as a result of Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of this is to maintain open communication with you and provide you with as much information as possible with regards to how ELC is responding to the global pandemic.
These new policies have been developed by the Early Learning Community (ELC), and are reflective with what has been provided by the to the public by the Center of Disease Control (CDC). It applies to all staff, children and families at ELC.
Drop Off /Pick Up Procedures:
Full day students' families will enter through the main entrance. Please check your child in and complete a daily health assessment. Next, ring the doorbell and an ELC staff member will meet you.The staff will check each child’s temperature using a touch-free thermometer.( If a child presents a temperature of 100.4 °F or higher,he/she will not be permitted to attend school.) The staff member will then escort your child to his/her classroom, parents will be asked to stay outside of the classrooms. After each student has entered the building, they will wash his/her hands.
Full day classes will have staggered start times to allow no more than 10 students to arrive at the same time. The first group of students drop off time will be between 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. The next group will be scheduled to arrive between 7:30 - 8:00 a.m.
At pick up, please sign your child out in the main entrance area. An ELC staff member will bring your child to you. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ELC dismissal times will be scheduled between 3:30-4:00, 4:00 - 4:30 and 4:30- 5:00 p.m. Please be considerate of other families and pick up and drop off during your schedule times. (more detailed information about staggered drop off/pick up times for full day students will be coming soon).
Half day families will form a car line in the parking lot of the school. A teacher will help each child out of his/her car. To reduce the amount of contact between individuals and maintain social distancing, we ask that the driver and all adults stay in their car. After each student has entered the building, they will wash his/her hands.
Any student presenting symptoms listed below will be asked to stay home from school:
Fever or chills (Temp higher than 100.4 °F)
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Muscle or body aches
New loss of taste or smell
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Health & Safety Procedures:
Frequent handwashing (before and after meals or snack, after using restroom, after nose-wiping, after outdoor play)
Hand sanitizer will be available at all times with adult supervision
Tissues will be available in several locations in the classroom
Staff will teach and reinforce healthy hygiene (covering coughs/sneezes, disposing of tissues, handwashing, keep fingers away from eyes, nose and mouth)
Sick children will be in adult supervised isolation area. If your child becomes ill while at school, you will be asked to pick-up your child within 30 minutes of a staff member contacting you. Please have plans in place to ensure you or a designated person on your emergency contact list is available if this should occur. A late fee charge of $1 a min will be expected past 30 min of phone call
A doctor’s note stating the diagnosis and when it is safe for your child to return to school is required
Nap cots will be spaced 6 feet apart. Children will be placed head to toe in order to further reduce the potential for viral spread. Each child’s bedding will be kept separate, and stored in individual labeled bins, cubbies, or bags
Nap items (small blankets/pillows) will be sent home weekly to be cleaned and returned the following Monday
Social Distancing: Close physical contact will be avoided when possible
Staff will routinely clean, sanitize, and disinfect materials and objects that are frequently touched, (i.e toys and games). This will also include cleaning frequently touched objects/surfaces daily such as doorknobs, light switches, classroom sink handles, countertops, nap cots, toilet training potties, desks, chairs, and cubbies
Toys that cannot be cleaned and sanitized will not be used. ELC will provide toys and manipulatives that are easy to clean and sanitize throughout the day: hard plastics, wooden blocks and void cloth toys as much as possible
Children’s books, like other paper-based materials such as mail or envelopes, are not considered a high risk for transmission and do not need additional cleaning or disinfection procedures
Playground structures will be disinfected after each group of children leaves the playground
One hour a day of deep cleaning the classroom areas will occur when children are not present
